At the heart of our workshop: mastery of the craft

Our know-how is based on traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation, combining rigor and creativity. Each manufacturing step, from the choice of materials to the finishing, is done by hand to guarantee unique quality and authenticity.

1Manufacturing step

Guillochage (Engraving)

Guillochage is the art of engraving decorative patterns on the knife's spring. This ancestral technique, performed entirely by hand using a file, gives each piece its unique character and distinctive visual signature.

Material Shaping

Shaping is the step where noble materials — precious woods, horns, resins, bone — are selected, cut and shaped to become the handles of our knives. Each material is carefully worked on grinding wheels and precision tools to achieve the perfect shape and feel.

Assembly

Assembly is the crucial step where all the parts — blade, engraved spring, shaped handles, corkscrew, bottle opener — are assembled one by one by the craftsman. Each rivet is placed by hand, each mechanism checked to guarantee perfect operation and impeccable finishing.

Polishing

Polishing is the step that reveals the full beauty of the piece. Each knife is hand-polished on grinding wheels of different grits to achieve a perfect shine. The craftsman visually and tactilely inspects each surface to ensure a flawless finish.

Preparation and Boxing

The final step before the piece reaches its future owner: a meticulous final quality control, followed by boxing. Each knife is carefully placed in its presentation case, ready to offer an exceptional experience from the moment it is opened.

Promoting Cutlery Crafts

Promoting cutlery crafts among young people, particularly by highlighting apprenticeship paths, is an essential mission to ensure the sustainability of these skills.

Maison Château LAGUIOLE® is actively involved in this approach by encouraging young people to discover the opportunities offered by apprenticeship, thus contributing to training the next generation and preserving exceptional crafts.

Cutlery crafts are full of riches and opportunities often unknown to young people. Apprentices play a central role in this approach to promoting trades, which also helps meet the growing need for skilled labor. By promoting the professional integration of young people and training tomorrow's talents, we invest in the economic and social development of our employment area.

Encouraging young people to embark on an apprenticeship path means investing in their future and in that of our traditional crafts, contributing to the dynamism of our economy and perpetuating the skills that make up the richness of our heritage.
