L'Essentiel
L'essentiel corkscrew White with Black TPR in individual carton
REF: LW12025
The double lever for everyday service
L'Essentiel is the entry sommelier corkscrew from LIGNE W, the one you reach for to open bottles day after day. Its « soft touch » handle is made of TPR, a thermoplastic rubber that moulds like a plastic and keeps the flexibility of rubber: the grip stays secure, even with wet hands, and wipes clean with a cloth. The body of the handle comes in black, white or orange, the insert in a contrasting colour, and the whole sells for 15 € in an individual cardboard sleeve. The mechanism is the one shared by LIGNE W sommelier corkscrews. A double lever system, that is two successive resting points on the neck of the bottle, lifts the cork in two stages without straining the wrist. The worm, the spiral that enters the cork, is Teflon-coated so it slides in without tearing it. A serrated foil cutter opens the capsule at the neck. Body and lever are stainless steel with a brushed finish. Closed, the tool measures 12 x 2.4 x 1.4 cm and weighs 68 g according to the house catalogue. The handle carries an integrated flat surface, designed for digital printing: this is the model restaurants, wine merchants and companies have marked with their own name. Seventeen combinations are online: black, white or orange body, with a red 186C, steel blue 549C, blue 2747C, grey 409C, green 3975C, orange 1655C, magenta, black or white insert. The L'Essentiel handle pairs a rigid body with a soft TPR insert, an overmoulded thermoplastic rubber that gives the soft-touch grip. The insert carries the colour, specified as a Pantone reference, and it is what holds in the hand when fingers and bottle are wet. Within LIGNE W, L'Essentiel holds the entry price. Above come L'Iroquois Colors at 24 € in plant-based PLA, L'Iroquois Wood at 30 to 34 € in rubberwood, Urban at 39 to 49 € in PBT, laser-engraved wood or zinc, W Origine at 45 to 60 € with a handle cut from wine barrel oak, and W Signature at 120 to 250 € in wood or horn. All of these ranges share the same base: double lever, stainless steel body, Teflon worm, serrated foil cutter. What changes from one range to the next is the handle material, the packaging and the warranty, not the opening gesture. Compared with a Château LAGUIOLE® sommelier knife, the difference is one of construction: Château LAGUIOLE mounts a wood or horn handle on two liners, the steel plates that form the body of the knife, closes it with a bolster, the metal piece that caps the end of the handle, and decorates its back with guilloché work, a decorative engraving, topped by the forged bee. L'Essentiel has none of that: it is a moulded service tool, light and replaceable, not a piece of art cutlery. LIGNE W was founded in 2008 by Sébastien Lézier; the brand designs double lever sommelier corkscrews. Since late 2017 it has also led Château LAGUIOLE®, created in 1993 by the sommelier Guy Vialis and taken over after his death in 2016; both brands have lived since 2021 under the umbrella brand Maison Château LAGUIOLE, whose workshop is in Thiers, in the Puy-de-Dôme. The model is widely distributed: the MCL catalogue shows it in a 12-colour display (page 21), Odoo carries a box of 12 and single-unit displays, and the North American distributor Laguiole Imports sells 12 colours with 8 customer reviews at 4.9/5 (read on 11/09/2026). The 15 € price is the same on our site and at the French retailers surveyed.

Caring for this material
Hand clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth; no dishwasher, heat deforms the elastomer. No solvents and no strong degreasers either: TPR takes up fats and essential oils, which leave it tacky.

To ensure the longevity, performance and elegance of your sommelier knife, please follow these care instructions:
- Hand wash only: this product is not dishwasher safe. Prolonged contact with water may damage materials and reduce durability. After each use, gently wipe your knife with a soft cloth. Do not immerse or soak in water.
- Protect from heat and moisture: avoid exposing your knife to intense heat, excessive humidity or harsh chemicals.
- Handle with care: protect the handle and mechanisms from impacts and drops, which could damage the blade or structure.
- Mechanism maintenance: if you notice slight resistance in the mechanism, apply a few drops of food-grade mineral oil to the moving parts. Professionals should lubricate every 2 weeks.
- Proper storage: after use, store your knife in a dry place, away from moisture, to preserve its performance and quality.
- What is the difference between L'Essentiel at 15 € and L'Essentiel First at 10 €?
- Both belong to the L'Essentiel collection, open with the same gesture and come in a cardboard sleeve; First exists in three colours, black, white and blue 549C. Two differences are established: First weighs 60 g bare against 68 g, and it is not made in France whereas L'Essentiel is.
- What is a double lever, and does it open one-handed?
- The double lever gives two successive resting points on the neck of the bottle: the cork comes out in two stages, without straining the wrist, which is safer on a long or tight cork.
- Can a logo be printed on the handle?
- Yes, that is the very purpose of the integrated flat surface: it takes a digital print, and the product page offers the option at 10 €.
- Is it dishwasher safe?
- No. The dishwasher attacks both the mechanism and the handle: hand wash, wipe with a soft cloth, store dry.
- Does it work with synthetic corks and screw caps?
- The Teflon-coated worm enters natural cork as well as synthetic cork, and the serrated foil cutter opens the capsule at the neck.
- What is the warranty?
- The MCL catalogue gives no duration for L'Essentiel, while it gives one to the other LIGNE W ranges: 1 year for L'Iroquois and Urban, 2 years for W Origine, 5 years for W Signature. Those are the durations the CEO kept on 12/09/2026, the catalogue being the authority. It belongs to the Château LAGUIOLE® Privilege Member Programme, which requires the knife to be registered, and does not extend to LIGNE W. In every case the warranty covers material and manufacturing defects in normal use, never personalised printing.
