W Signature
Signature corkscrew Amaranth wood in wooden box Made in France
REF: LW07522
An oval handle, thirteen materials
The Signature sommelier knife, or waiter's corkscrew, was born of a collaboration with a Grand Cru château of Bordeaux: rounded forms, clean lines, and an oval-section handle that fills the palm instead of pressing into it. That oval shape is the signature of the range, and it is what explains the grip. Every piece is made in France, in Thiers (Puy-de-Dôme), the French capital of cutlery. Beneath the material lies the LIGNE W service mechanism. A brushed stainless steel body. A double lever system, that is, two successive resting points on the neck of the bottle: the cork comes out in two stages, straight, without forcing, including the long corks of wines built to age. A Teflon-coated worm, the spiral that enters the cork, coated so it slides in instead of tearing it. An integrated serrated foil cutter, to open the capsule before serving. Thirteen handle materials are offered, from 120 to 250 €: nine woods, three horns and warthog tusk. Each handle is cut from a natural material, so grain, tone and marbling change from one piece to the next: the corkscrew you receive resembles the photograph without being identical to it. The whole comes in a magnetic wooden gift box, which makes it a service tool as much as a gift, for a professional sommelier as well as a wine lover. Amaranth, also called purpleheart, is purple when cut then darkens to a purplish brown within days under light. It is the only frankly coloured material in the collection. Within the W collection, Signature is the sommelier corkscrew defined by noble material and by shape. W Origine, its immediate neighbour, shares exactly the same mechanism and the same dimensions, but offers a single wood, oak from barrels that aged great wines, in a kraft cardboard box sealed with wax, from 45 €. Signature instead opens a choice of thirteen woods and horns on an oval handle, in a magnetic wooden box, from 120 to 250 €. Further down the brand the mechanism does not change, only the material does: L'Essentiel (15 €) mounts it on a soft TPR handle, L'Iroquois Colors (24 €) on bio-based PLA, L'Iroquois Wood (30 to 34 €) on hevea, Urban (39 to 49 €) on printed PBT, laser-engraved wood or zinc. What separates these ranges is therefore the material, the packaging and the warranty term, not the performance at opening. Compared with a Château LAGUIOLE® sommelier knife, the difference is one of construction, not of standing. Signature has no forged bee, no bolsters, the metal pieces set at the ends of the handle, no visible liner, the metal plate the handle is mounted on, and no guilloché spring, that is, a spring engraved with fine decorative lines. Nor does it have a bottle-cap lever. It is a contemporary, pared-back tool whose argument is the handle and the double lever, where Château LAGUIOLE® puts forward forged ornament and its sommellerie history opened in 1993. LIGNE W was founded in 2008 by Sébastien Lézier, and became known for its double-lever sommelier corkscrews. They are made in France, in Thiers (Puy-de-Dôme). Since late 2017 LIGNE W has also led Château LAGUIOLE®, created in 1993 by the sommelier Guy Vialis, who died in 2016; both brands have lived since 2021 under the umbrella brand Maison Château LAGUIOLE. Signature appears in the house catalogue with its dimensions, its weight and a 5-year warranty, the term confirmed by the CEO on 12/09/2026. The lifetime warranty is a separate scheme: it is reserved for Château LAGUIOLE® knives registered with the Privilege Member Programme, and does not extend to LIGNE W ranges. Reference LW07528 carries the EAN code 3700761414012, recorded in our management system.

Handcrafted in France — Each LIGNE W is crafted in our workshop near Thiers, France, with exceptional expertise and a rigorous artisanal process.
Purpleheart handle, tight grained with violet highlights.
Purpleheart is a tropical American wood, greyish brown when freshly cut, that turns violet within days on contact with air and light. That colour is not a dye: it comes from the wood itself, and it keeps shifting towards a darker purplish brown over the years.
Caring for this material
Purpleheart keeps its violet longer away from direct sunlight: store the knife in its sheath and avoid long spells in a lit display case. Soft cloth after use, never a dishwasher and never soaking; a drop of food grade mineral oil once or twice a year feeds the wood, bearing in mind that it slightly darkens the tone.

To ensure the longevity, performance and elegance of your sommelier knife, please follow these care instructions:
- Hand wash only: this product is not dishwasher safe. Prolonged contact with water may damage materials and reduce durability. After each use, gently wipe your knife with a soft cloth. Do not immerse or soak in water.
- Protect from heat and moisture: avoid exposing your knife to intense heat, excessive humidity or harsh chemicals.
- Handle with care: protect the handle and mechanisms from impacts and drops, which could damage the blade or structure.
- Mechanism maintenance: if you notice slight resistance in the mechanism, apply a few drops of food-grade mineral oil to the moving parts. Professionals should lubricate every 2 weeks.
- Proper storage: after use, store your knife in a dry place, away from moisture, to preserve its performance and quality.
- What is the difference between W Signature and the other LIGNE W sommelier corkscrews?
- The mechanism is the same across the brand: double lever, brushed stainless steel body, Teflon worm, serrated foil cutter. What changes is the handle, the box and the warranty. Signature offers an oval handle in thirteen woods and horns, in a magnetic wooden box, with 5 years of warranty in the catalogue; W Origine offers only oak barrel wood in a kraft box sealed with wax, with 2 years; L'Essentiel, L'Iroquois and Urban use technical materials from 15 €, L'Iroquois and Urban carrying 1 year.
- Which handle material should I choose, and why does the price range from 120 to 250 €?
- The price follows the material: 120 € for oak, olive and boxwood, 130 € for amaranth, kingwood, ebony, palo santo, Norwegian birch and walnut, 160 € for the three horns, 250 € for warthog tusk. Pale woods (boxwood, birch) lighten the handle, dark woods (ebony, palo santo) give it density, horns bring unique marbling. For daily use on the floor, choose the material you will not be afraid to let age.
- Will my handle look exactly like the photograph?
- No, and that is intended: wood, horn and tusk are natural materials, so grain, tone and marbling vary from one piece to the next. The photograph shows a representative example of the material, not the exact piece that will be shipped.
- Can I travel with an ebony, kingwood or warthog tusk handle?
- These materials fall under different regulations. Kingwood belongs to the genus Dalbergia, listed in CITES Appendix II since 2017, with an exemption for finished products under 10 kg per shipment since November 2019. Some Madagascar ebonies (genus Diospyros) have been in Appendix II since 2013. The warthog is not listed in any CITES appendix, but several countries regulate non-elephant ivory.
- How do I care for it, and is it dishwasher safe?
- No, never the dishwasher and never immersion: water damages both the handle and the mechanism. Wiping with a soft, dry cloth after each service is enough, plus a drop of food-grade mineral oil on the pivots if the double lever becomes stiff.
- What is the warranty, and is engraving included?
- The house catalogue states 5 years for W Signature, covering material and manufacturing defects in normal use, and that is the term confirmed by the CEO on 12/09/2026. The lifetime warranty is a separate scheme: it is reserved for Château LAGUIOLE® knives registered with the Privilege Member Programme and does not apply to LIGNE W. The product page also announces free personalised engraving.
