Urban Wood corkscrew 'Tiger Eye' Tatoo in Tube packaging
REF: LW16398
Sustainable and universal
The L'Iroquois collection pays tribute to the ancestral values of the First Nations: respect for nature, community life and hospitality. L'Iroquois Wood is its wooden expression. The handle is cut from hevea, the rubber tree, whose timber comes from responsibly managed plantation forests. Hevea is planted for its latex and felled when it stops producing, after twenty-five to thirty years of tapping: this handle is a second life for the tree, not the product of natural forest logging. Under the handle sits the LIGNE W service mechanism. A serrated blade cuts the foil at the neck of the bottle. The worm, the screw that enters the cork, is Teflon-coated: it slides in without crumbling the cork. The double lever rests on the lip of the bottle in two stages, so there is no need to force long corks. The body is stainless steel with a brushed finish, satin rather than shiny. Closed, the knife measures 12.2 cm and weighs 79 g. The design is deliberately plain, with no ornament, so that it suits every table. This reference comes in a transparent magnetic tube, ready to be given as it is; the same knife is also sold in a white gift box under reference LW15018. A service tool for a sommelier on the floor, a wine merchant or a wine lover, and a gift at a measured price. Hevea is the rubber tree. It is planted for its latex, tapped for twenty-five to thirty years, then felled once it stops producing: its pale, straight-grained timber is a second harvest from the tree rather than the product of natural forest logging. The species is listed in no CITES appendix and is rated Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. The Maison's catalogue calls it « rubber wood », the term the Taiwanese distributor also uses. Within the LIGNE W range, L'Iroquois Wood is the entry point into natural materials. L'Iroquois Colors, at 24 €, carries the same mechanism on a PLA handle, a bioplastic made from sugar cane and corn, in twenty colours. Urban Wood uses exactly this hevea handle, laser-engraved with a pattern, and sells at 39 € (49 € for the « Toit des Hospices de Beaune » no. 58). Urban Street Art moves to PBT printed by sublimation, Urban Zinc to zinc, 140 g in the hand. Above them, the W collection changes register: W Origine (45 to 60 €) cuts its handle from oak barrels that aged wine, W Signature (120 to 250 €) from thirteen woods and horns, with catalogue warranties of 2 and 5 years. Below, L'Essentiel (15 €) keeps the mechanism on a soft TPR handle. Compared with a Château LAGUIOLE® sommelier knife, the difference is one of construction, not of finish. The Château LAGUIOLE carries a forged bee, a guilloché spring (the spine of the knife, decorated with an engraved pattern known as guillochage), one or two bolsters (the metal pieces capping the ends of the handle) and liners (the steel plates that hold the mechanism under the handle). L'Iroquois Wood has none of these parts: a smooth silhouette, a double lever, and a price of another order, 34 € against 205 € for the least expensive Château LAGUIOLE® Classic. LIGNE W was founded in 2008 by Sébastien Lézier and became known for its double-lever sommelier knives. At the end of 2017 the brand took over Château LAGUIOLE®, created in 1993 by Guy Vialis, a sommelier, who died in 2016; since 2021 both brands have stood, alongside Guy Vialis, under the umbrella brand Maison Château LAGUIOLE®. The Maison's products are made in its workshop in Thiers, in the Puy-de-Dôme, the French capital of cutlery. The Maison is a partner of the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (ASI) and of the Union de la Sommellerie Française (UDSF), and supports the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

Handcrafted in France — Each LIGNE W is crafted in our workshop near Thiers, France, with exceptional expertise and a rigorous artisanal process.
Hevea (rubberwood) handle sourced from responsibly managed plantation forests.
Hevea is the wood of the rubber tree: after twenty five to thirty years of latex tapping, the plantation tree no longer yields enough and its timber is sawn rather than burned. Pale blond and straight grained, it gives L'Iroquois Wood a plain, light handle that leaves the stage to the decoration and the mechanism.
Caring for this material
Wipe the handle dry after use and never put it in the dishwasher: hevea is a soft, porous wood that greys and stains if left wet. A drop of food grade mineral oil applied with a cloth once or twice a year restores its colour and slows the greying.

How to proceed?
- Scan the QR code on the back of the member card included in the box.
- Register your product by following the instructions on the dedicated page.
- Hand wash only: this knife is not dishwasher safe. Do not immerse it, do not let it soak.
- After each service, wipe the blade, the worm and the handle with a soft dry cloth.
- Mechanism: if the double lever stiffens, one or two drops of food-grade mineral oil on the moving parts are enough.
- Extraction: rest the lever on the lip of the bottle and pull in line with the cork; pulling at an angle bends the worm.
- Store dry, away from damp and direct light; the magnetic tube doubles as a case.
- Wipe the handle dry after use and never put it in the dishwasher: hevea is a soft, porous wood that greys and stains if left wet. A drop of food grade mineral oil applied with a cloth once or twice a year restores its colour and slows the greying.
To ensure the longevity, performance and elegance of your sommelier knife, please follow these care instructions:
- Hand wash only: this product is not dishwasher safe. Prolonged contact with water may damage materials and reduce durability. After each use, gently wipe your knife with a soft cloth. Do not immerse or soak in water.
- Protect from heat and moisture: avoid exposing your knife to intense heat, excessive humidity or harsh chemicals.
- Handle with care: protect the handle and mechanisms from impacts and drops, which could damage the blade or structure.
- Mechanism maintenance: if you notice slight resistance in the mechanism, apply a few drops of food-grade mineral oil to the moving parts. Professionals should lubricate every 2 weeks.
- Proper storage: after use, store your knife in a dry place, away from moisture, to preserve its performance and quality.
- L'Iroquois Wood or L'Iroquois Colors: which one?
- The mechanism is identical: double lever, brushed stainless steel body, Teflon worm, serrated foil cutter. Only the handle differs. Wood is hevea wood, at 30 or 34 € depending on the packaging; Colors is PLA, a biodegradable bioplastic made from sugar cane and corn, in twenty colours at 24 €.
- What is hevea wood?
- It is the wood of the rubber tree, Hevea brasiliensis, which the Maison's catalogue also calls « rubber wood ». The tree is planted for its latex and felled once it stops producing, after twenty-five to thirty years: it is therefore plantation timber, not natural forest timber. The species is listed in no CITES appendix and is rated Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
- Is it dishwasher safe?
- No. Neither the wooden handle nor the mechanism tolerates immersion or a dishwasher cycle. Wiping it with a soft dry cloth after service is enough.
- Magnetic tube or white box: what is the difference?
- The knife is the same. LW15014 comes in a transparent magnetic tube at 34 €, LW15018 in a white gift box at 30 €.
- What is the warranty?
- L'Iroquois Wood carries a one-year warranty against material and manufacturing defects under normal use. The lifetime warranty the Maison offers elsewhere is a separate scheme: it is reserved for Château LAGUIOLE® knives registered with the Programme Membre Privilège and applies to no LIGNE W product.
- Can it be engraved?
- Yes, laser engraving is offered from the product page and charged 10 € incl. VAT on this series.
