Château LAGUIOLE® Melchior
Château LAGUIOLE corkscrew Melchior Olive wood
REF: CLGCM008
Opulence and generosity in the service of wine
The Château LAGUIOLE® Melchior sommelier corkscrew takes its name from the largest wine bottle, the Melchior: 18 litres, the equivalent of 24 bottles of 75 cl. It also honours Melchior, King of the Persians and one of the Three Wise Men, a figure of wisdom and nobility. Its signature is in the hand: a full, wide and generous handle, closed by a single bolster, the metal piece that finishes the end of the handle. The grip is broader and more secure, a real comfort in service and at the table. On the back, the forged bee and the guilloché work, the decorative engraving chiselled along the spine, mark a piece of the House. Body and lever are in Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel. Olive wood, a Mediterranean species, shows lively golden veining on a pale ground; no two handles are alike. Three Château LAGUIOLE sommelier corkscrews share the same mechanism, serrated foil cutter, five-turn threaded worm, bottle-opener lever, 11.4 cm closed, and differ by the handle. The Classic, born in 1993, has a slim handle and one bolster: it is the icon, from €225. The Grand Cru adds two wider bolsters for the intensive use of professionals, from €225. Its weight, around 95 g, sits between the Classic (90 g) and the Grand Cru (100 g). Château LAGUIOLE® was founded in 1993 by Guy Vialis, a sommelier, with the Classic, the first luxury sommelier corkscrew. After his death in 2016, the brand was taken over at the end of 2017 by LIGNE W, founded in 2008 by Sébastien Lézier, and brought together in 2021 under the Maison Château LAGUIOLE umbrella brand. Every Melchior is made and assembled by hand in our workshop in Thiers (Puy-de-Dôme), the French capital of cutlery. Château LAGUIOLE sommelier corkscrews accompany Best Sommeliers of the World, from Shinya Tasaki (1995) to Raimonds Tomsons (ASI 2023), each of whom has his own model in the Best Sommelier of the World collection. Each piece comes with its member card: online registration activates the lifetime warranty.

Handcrafted in France — Each Château LAGUIOLE is crafted in our workshop near Thiers, France, with exceptional expertise and a rigorous artisanal process.
Olive wood handle (Olea europaea), dark brown veining over a blond ground, a figure unique to each piece.
Olive (Olea europaea) grows around the Mediterranean, and its wood does not come from forestry: producing trees are not felled for timber, so the scales are cut from prunings, branches and orchard trees that have died or been uprooted. Olive grain is irregular, which is why the pattern of dark brown veining over a blond ground changes from one handle to the next.
Caring for this material
Wipe the handle after every use and never put the knife in a dishwasher: hot water and detergent open the grain and dull the polish. Once or twice a year, rub in a drop of neutral food-grade oil with a cloth, let it soak in, then wipe off the excess.

This product benefits from a lifetime warranty. The warranty is valid for the entire normal use period of the product, subject to compliance with the care and usage conditions defined in the warranty policy. To activate this warranty, you must register your product online.
How to proceed?
- Scan the QR code on the back of the member card included in the box.
- Register your product by following the instructions on the dedicated page.
- Hand cleaning only: never in the dishwasher, never soaked. Wipe the corkscrew with a soft cloth after each service.
- If the mechanism stiffens, a drop of food-grade mineral oil on the moving parts (lever pivot, worm) is enough; every two weeks for professional use.
- Keep the handle away from heat, prolonged humidity and household chemicals: horn, bone, stag antler and wood are sensitive to them.
- Protect the handle and the mechanism from knocks and falls.
- After use, store the corkscrew in its sheath, in a dry place.
- Wipe the wood after use; avoid prolonged water and heat sources.
To ensure the longevity, performance and elegance of your sommelier knife, please follow these care instructions:
- Hand wash only: this product is not dishwasher safe. Prolonged contact with water may damage materials and reduce durability. After each use, gently wipe your knife with a soft cloth. Do not immerse or soak in water.
- Protect from heat and moisture: avoid exposing your knife to intense heat, excessive humidity or harsh chemicals.
- Handle with care: protect the handle and mechanisms from impacts and drops, which could damage the blade or structure.
- Mechanism maintenance: if you notice slight resistance in the mechanism, apply a few drops of food-grade mineral oil to the moving parts. Professionals should lubricate every 2 weeks.
- Proper storage: after use, store your knife in a dry place, away from moisture, to preserve its performance and quality.
- What is the difference between the Melchior, the Classic and the Grand Cru?
- Same mechanism and same dimensions (11.4 cm closed). The Classic, born in 1993, has a slim handle and one bolster; the Grand Cru has two wider bolsters for intensive use; the Melchior has a full, wide handle closed by a single bolster, for a broader grip. Indicative weights: 90 g, 100 g and 95 g.
- Can it go in the dishwasher?
- No. The dishwasher damages natural handle materials and the mechanism. Hand cleaning, a soft cloth and dry storage.
- Will the handle look exactly like the photo?
- Not for natural materials: horn, bone, stag antler and wood have veining and shades specific to each piece. Stamina, a laminated wood dyed through the mass, is more uniform from one piece to the next.
- Is it suitable for left-handed users?
- The movement is the same with either hand: you screw the worm into the cork, then rest the lever on the neck of the bottle.
- Can it be engraved?
- Yes, on references showing the Personalise button: the engraving is composed in the 3D configurator and you see the rendering before ordering. A personalised product cannot be returned or exchanged.
- Delivery times, returns and warranty?
- Standard delivery in 2 to 5 business days in France, 4 to 7 in the European Union, 6 to 12 for the rest of the world, from the confirmation e-mail. You have 14 days after delivery to return a non-personalised product. The lifetime warranty is activated by registering the member card (QR code on the back).
