One theme and one material per model: the Château LAGUIOLE sommelier corkscrews that tell a story

Château LAGUIOLE Special Editions are sommelier corkscrews, each built around a theme: a tribute, a culture, a partnership or an emotion. The handle, its material and its decoration carry the subject; the mechanism is that of the house's sommelier corkscrews, made in Thiers, France. Seven models make up the collection: Eros, its serpent wood handle carrying an engraved mythological scene, Sakura in Japanese cherry wood, First, which revives the design of the very first 1993 corkscrew, Freemason with its mosaic handle, Monaco in red and white acrylic or in olive wood, and Le Rouge et le Noir. Six models are built with two bolsters, the metal caps that close the handle at each end; Le Rouge et le Noir has one. All carry the forged bee and the guilloché work, a decorative engraving cut along the back of the corkscrew. Monaco wears the red and white of the Monegasque flag, in partnership with the Association Monégasque des Sommeliers in support of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. On the product page, show only the sentence for the model concerned. The Classic, with one bolster, is the house's original sommelier corkscrew (225 €). The Grand Cru keeps the same silhouette with two bolsters, for intensive service (225 €). The Melchior widens the handle for a fuller grip (260 €). The World's Best Sommelier series carries models personalised by the winners of the ASI competition (290 €), and Opus gathers one-of-a-kind pieces. A Special Edition stands apart by its subject: material, decoration or engraving are chosen to tell a theme, on a two-bolster construction like the Grand Cru for six models out of seven. Prices run from 240 € for First to 300 € for Freemason. Château LAGUIOLE was founded in 1993 by Guy Vialis, a sommelier who wanted to turn a service tool into a work of art. After his death in 2016, the brand was taken over at the end of 2017 by LIGNE W, the company founded in 2008 by Sébastien Lézier, then brought under the Maison Château LAGUIOLE umbrella in 2021. The corkscrews are made in Thiers, Puy-de-Dôme, France. The house works with the ASI World's Best Sommeliers, from Shinya Tasaki, 1995 winner, who personalised his own model, to Raimonds Tomsons, 2023 winner. Every piece is stamped with the logo and delivered with a QR-coded membership card: it attests that the corkscrew comes from our workshops, and registering it online activates the lifetime warranty.

Handcrafted in France — Each Château LAGUIOLE is crafted in our workshop near Thiers, France, with exceptional expertise and a rigorous artisanal process.

Handle in cast acrylic (PMMA), coloured through, polished.

The handle is cut from a block of cast acrylic, a resin coloured all the way through, whose pattern, plain, mosaic or inclusion, sits inside the block rather than on its surface. Because each block is cast and then sawn, the cut falls at a different point in the pattern every time, so no two handles from one block carry the same drawing.

Caring for this material

Hand wash in warm soapy water and wipe dry at once: acrylic is not harmed by water, but a dishwasher cycle dulls the polish. Use no solvent, no alcohol hand gel and no acetone or ammonia based cleaner, which make PMMA swell and craze, whereas a light scratch simply polishes out.

What is the difference between a Special Edition and a Classic or a Grand Cru?
The mechanism belongs to the same family: Classic with one bolster, Grand Cru and six of the seven Special Editions with two bolsters. What changes is the subject: each Special Edition is designed around a theme, with a material or a decoration chosen for it, at 240 to 300 € against 225 € for a Classic or a Grand Cru.
Why is this corkscrew called Eros?
Eros is the Greek god of love, and the handle tells the story: it carries an engraved satyr and nymph scene drawn from Greek mythology.
Is it dishwasher safe?
No. Hand wash, dry with a soft cloth, never soak: prolonged water damages wood, horn and the mechanism.
Can I have the corkscrew engraved or personalised?
The product page offers personalisation.
What is the warranty?
Lifetime warranty, activated by registering the membership card delivered in the box: scan its QR code, then follow the Activate my warranty page. The card also attests that the piece comes from our workshops.
Are two corkscrews of the same model identical? Is the series limited?
Serpent wood, cherry wood, olive wood and horn are natural materials: figure, shade and weight vary from piece to piece.
